Marketing Account Executive

The Marketing Account Executive is responsible for building and maintaining strong relationships with clients while actively pursuing new business for the agency. This role blends sales and account management: you’ll prospect and close new accounts, then serve as the main point of contact to coordinate strategy, creative, and execution with the internal team.

You are equal parts relationship-builder, problem-solver, and project quarterback.

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify and research prospective clients that are a good fit for the agency’s services.
  • Build and manage a personal sales pipeline through cold outreach, networking, events, referrals, and inbound leads.
  • Conduct discovery meetings to understand prospects’ goals, challenges, budgets, and timelines.
  • Work with leadership to develop proposals, presentations, and scopes of work.
  • Present and pitch agency capabilities and recommendations to decision-makers.
  • Negotiate and close new business while maintaining profitable and realistic scopes.
  • Track all sales activities and opportunities in the agency’s CRM or tracking system.
  • Serve as the primary day-to-day contact for assigned clients, building trust and long-term relationships.
  • Lead regular client check-ins, status calls, and strategy sessions.
  • Gather client goals, messaging, and brand guidelines, and translate them into clear internal briefs.
  • Collaborate with internal teams (creative, digital, production, etc.) to plan and execute campaigns and projects.
  • Monitor project timelines and deliverables to ensure work is completed on time and on budget.
  • Review deliverables before they go to the client to ensure they align with objectives, brand standards, and quality expectations.
  • Track campaign performance; pull basic reports, interpret results, and communicate wins and opportunities to clients.
  • Proactively identify upsell and cross-sell opportunities that genuinely benefit the client.
  • Help resolve client issues quickly and professionally, escalating to leadership when needed.
  • Participate in internal planning meetings to provide client context and priorities.
  • Help forecast workload and revenue from existing and prospective accounts.
  • Maintain accurate records of client activity, billing status, and scope changes.
  • Assist leadership with case studies, testimonials, and other sales materials as accounts see success.
  • Represent the agency professionally at community events, sponsorships, and industry functions.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Advertising, Communications, Business, or equivalent experience.
  • 2–5 years of experience in marketing, advertising, media, or sales
  • Proven track record in sales, business development, or account growth.
  • Understanding of core marketing channels (social media, digital ads, video, events, print, etc.).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including presentation skills.
  • Comfortable managing multiple projects, timelines, and personalities at once.
  • Proficient with common office and project tools (e.g., Google Workspace/Microsoft 365, project management and CRM tools).

Personal Attributes

  • Relationship-driven with a genuine interest in helping clients succeed.
  • Confident and professional in meetings, both in-person and virtual.
  • Self-starter who can manage their own time and priorities with minimal hand-holding.
  • Detail-oriented but able to keep the “big picture” in mind.
  • Calm under pressure and flexible when things change (because they will).
  • Team player who respects and supports the creative and production process.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Hourly based on experience.
  • Performance incentives/commission opportunities tied to new business and account growth.
  • Health benefits, PTO, holidays and flexible schedule.
